261. Work Areas (see also 253).--Major concerns of the church universal and local Church include Christian unity and interreligious concerns, church and society, education, evangelism, higher education and campus ministry, missions, religion and race, the status and role of women, stewardship, and worship. Therefore the charge conference may elect annually the chairperson of Christian unity and interreligious concerns, the chairperson of church and society, the chairperson of community volunteers, the chairperson of education, the chairperson of evangelism, the chairperson of higher education and campus ministry, the chairperson of missions, the chairperson of religion and race, the chairperson of the status and role of women, the chairperson of stewardship, and the chairperson of worship. Where desirable, the charge conference may combine coordinators' and work area chairpersons' assignments.
Each work area chairperson, with the guidance of the pastor or a representative from the employed staff and the chairperson of the council on ministries or administrative council, shall contact the program agencies, obtain guidance material, and study the implications for the work area in the total mission of the Church; shall interpret and recommend to the council on ministries or administrative council ways of implementing the mission of the Church represented by the area; shall make specific recommendations of the work area for different age groups; shall serve as liaison within and beyond the local church. When an activity in the area of work is planned by the council on ministries or administrative council to include two or more age levels, the chairperson of the work area may serve, when designated by the council on ministries or administrative council, as chairperson of a group from the age levels to carry out the activity.
