1706. The board is authorized to perfect its organization from its membership, including the offices of chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary. The board shall elect from its membership an executive committee of sixteen members, including the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary of the board, who shall serve respectively as chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary of the committee. Special attention shall be given to representation of racial ethnic groups and women. Not more than four members of the executive committee shall be from any one jurisdiction. The bishops serving on the board shall be ex-officio members, and the publisher of The United Methodist Church (1714) shall be an ex-officio member without vote. Any vacancy occurring in the membership of the executive committee shall be filled by it, subject to confirmation by the board at its next meeting.
