Christian unity is founded on the theological understanding that
through faith in Jesus Christ we are made members-
in-
common
of the one Body of Christ. God's action, rather than our own, is
always primary. It is God who creates the reality of Christian unity through
the gracious actions signified and effected in the sacrament of baptism.
Therefore, Christian unity is not an option; it is a gift to be received
by faith in Jesus Christ and expressed in concrete actions of love
toward God and neighbor
