2. Each person must contact the conference Board of Diaconal Ministry and obtain and read the book The Christian As Minister, and discuss it with their local pastor or diaconal minister. If the person then wants to start the exploration phase, they must contact the conference Board of Diaconal Ministry again and request that a mentor be assigned to guide them through the periods of inquiry, exploration and affirmation. He/she must begin work in the Candidacy Journal, a workbook for inquirers and candidates, which is available from the conference Board of Diaconal Ministry.
