When controversies arise, personnel and members of general boards and agencies shall seek understanding, resolution, and reconciliation in a humble and open manner among the parties involved, following biblical patterns (Matthew 18:15-17; Acts 15; Galatians 6:1-5; Ephesians 4:15-16; and others) to the greatest degree possible while remaining good stewards of the time and resources entrusted to their care. Bishops, laity, and clergy gifted in reconciliation may be recruited to assist. Other members and congregations of The United Methodist Church are likewise expected humbly to seek understanding and personal reconciliation about controversial matters.
