Resolved, that the General Conference cause a meaningful and acceptable membership vow concerning the holy Scriptures to be written and added to the service of Renunciation of Sin and Profession of Faith (The United Methodist Hymnal, page 34, number 4) and if at all possible, do so during the April 16-26, 1996, session so the vow may have early publication and implementation.

This vow might be worded as follows:

Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, believe the Bible to be the true rule and guide for faith and practice for Christians, and realize that sincerely studying the Bible will be a great benefit to your life? If so, answer, "I do."
