We, the undersigned members of various United Methodist churches, oppose COCU. There are serious differences between the beliefs in the different churches, and some of the churches have tabled their decision on whether or not to join COCU until 2000. We are not opposed to the principle of unity with other Christians, but this plan goes way beyond this. We are opposed to being linked with churches that ordain homosexual ministers as well as churches that do not baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We petition the General Conference to, therefore, oppose that our beloved United Methodist Church be linked to an organization such as this.
