1. (k) filing of an action in a civil court against The United Methodist Church, any of its annual conferences or general agencies, one or more bishops, one or more district superintendents, one or more ministerial members of an annual conference, or lay members of a local church while acting in their elected or appointed offices, prior to the completion of any and all available judicial procedures within The United Methodist Church. (However, such act shall not be considered a chargeable offense if the person files an action in a civil court within fourteen (14) days of the termination of the appropriate statutes of limitations under civil law to protect his/her legal rights under the constitution of the jurisdiction in which the action is filed.)
