The local church would have to be more deeply involved in the appointment process and understand that this is not for one year only. Theoretically, the appointment is for life. This would remove the thinking that we can tolerate the pastor for one year and then get another. Grievance would, of necessity, have to be worked out harmoniously. Petty matters as well as the feeling that one person controls the local church and a need for a "friend" in the cabinet would not enter the appointment process. The bishop and the cabinet would be freed for more pressing matters, i.e., mission and evangelistic efforts, etc.
