Frederick Merritt Pyke, (1884-1976), American missionary, and his wife, Frances Louise Taft Pyke, (1887-?), are the subjects of this collection of photographs together with sites and personnel associated with their missionary activity. The collection consists of four folders. Two folders depict family and native Chinese Christians. The other two folders are photographs of Chinese groups in various missions' settings.

John Wengatz graduated from Taylor University in 1909 with a degree in theology and a passion for mission work. John worked at a mission in Angola from 1910 until 1931, shortly after the death of his first wife, Susan. He later worked at other various mission sites in Africa until his retirement in 1951. This document contains many of the photographs that he took during his eventful life.
