Section V. Relationship to the Charge Conference

314. 1. A person appointed as a diaconal minister to a local congregation, charge, or cooperative parish shall be a member of a local Church within the community where she/he resides and/or works, and a voting member of its charge conference.

2. A person appointed as a diaconal minister in a churchrelated agency within his/her annual conference shall be a member of a local Church and be a voting member of its charge conference in the community where he/she resides, or in a neighboring community.

3. A person appointed as a diaconal minister in a church-related agency outside his/her annual conference shall be a member of a local Church and be a voting member of its charge conference in the community where he/she resides or shall have membership in a local Church within his/her home annual conference, in which case he/she shall have an affiliate membership in the charge conference of a local Church in the community in which he/she resides, or in a neighboring community.

4. A person appointed as a diaconal minister to a ministry which extends the witness and service of Christ's love and justice in the world other than a church-related agency shall be a member of a local Church and be a voting member of its charge conference, after consultation with the pastor, in the community where he/she resides, or in a neighboring community.

5. The diaconal minister shall make a report to the charge conference of which he/she is a member.
