1406. Incorporation--1. The General Board of Global Ministries shall be incorporated and shall function through the board, its divisions and departments. Within the board there shall be three divisions--namely: the National Division, the Women's Division, and the World Division; and four departments--namely: the Health and Welfare Ministries Department, the Mission Education and Cultivation Department, the Mission Personnel Resources Department, and the United Methodist Committee on Relief Department. The divisions and departments may each also be incorporated upon approval of the board. These divisions and departments shall be the corporate successors, respectively, of the Health and Welfare Ministries Division, the Education and Cultivation Division, the United Methodist Committee on Relief Division, the Joint Commission on Education and Cultivation, the National Division, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, the Women's Division, the World Division of the Board of Missions of The Methodist Church, and the corporate successor of the Board of Missions of The Evangelical United Brethren Church, the Board of Missions of The United Methodist Church, and the General Board of Health and Welfare Ministries of The United Methodist Church. The board, its divisions, and departments shall be incorporated in such a state or states as the board may elect.

2. The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church shall be the successor to the following corporations: the Board of Missions of The Evangelical United Brethren Church, the Home Missions and Church Erection Society of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, the Foreign Missionary Society of the United Brethren in Christ, the Women's Missionary Association of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, the Missionary Society of the Evangelical Church, and the Board of Church Extension of the Evangelical Church, and as such successor it shall be and is authorized and empowered to receive from its said predecessor corporations all trust funds and assets of every kind and character, real, personal, or mixed, held by them, and it shall and hereby is authorized to administer such trusts and funds in accordance with the conditions under which they have been previously received and administered by the said predecessor corporations.

3. It shall have control of all the work formerly controlled and administered by the following: the Board of Health and Welfare Ministries; the Board of Missions of The United Methodist Church; the Board of Missions and Church Extension of The Methodist Church; the Missionary Society, the Board of Foreign Missions, the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension, the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, the Woman's Home Missionary Society, the Wesleyan Service Guild, and the Ladies' Aid Societies of the Methodist Episcopal Church; the Board of Missions, including the Woman's Missionary Society, the Woman's Board of Foreign Missions, the Woman's Board of Home Missions, the Woman's Missionary Council, and the Board of Church Extension of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South; the Board of Missions of the Methodist Protestant Church; and such other corporations or agencies of the General Conference as do similar work; but this list shall not be construed as exclusive.

4. Subject to the limitations hereinafter specified, each of the incorporated divisions shall be subject to the supervision and control of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church in all things not inconsistent with the Constitution and laws of the United States and of the states of incorporation.

5. The board, its divisions, and departments shall have the power to create those subsidiary units or sections needed in the fulfillment of designated functions, upon approval of the board.
