Sheila Kaye-Smith (1887-1956), English writer was born on February 4, 1887, in St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Sussex. Kaye-Smith died on January 14, 1956 and is buried in the church yard at St Teresa of Lisieux, at Northiam. An incomplete handwritten manuscript of her work entitled The Tramping Methodist.

Abel Stevens (1815-1897), Methodist Historian, was born in Philadelphia on January 19, 1815, and joined the New England Annual Conference in 1834. He was editor of Zions' Herald and The National Magazine, and corresponding editor of The Methodist. Abel Stevens died on September 11, 1897. The collection comprises various record types dealing with the slavery question and how it related to the denomination.

Adam Clarke (1760-1832), Anglo-Irish preacher and Biblical scholar, was born in County Londonderry, Ireland in 1760. Clarke served widely in Great Britain, and was a strong advocate for the poor, and for the education of poor children. He became known for his skills as a Biblical scholar and linguist.
