History Note :

Edmund B. Snyder entered the itineracy in the Baltimore Conference Methodist Episcopal Church in 1854. In 1885, he moved to Florida for his health and two years later raised money to build a church at Okahumpka. He was appointed in 1890 to Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, where he served until his death in 1895. The church was renamed Snyder Memorial in 1903.

History Note :

Frederick Townsend Barnett (1878- 1962) was a member of the Barnett family, prominent in Florida Methodism. Through his work with the Board of Lay Activities, he organized men's clubs throughout the Florida Conference MECS and MC. He served for many years as executive secretary of United Florida Drys, traveling the state in the cause of alcohol and narcotic education. He was a lawyer, lay speaker, and historian.

Scope Note :

The collection includes excerpts from the diaries of his Methodist minister grandfather and father, Thomas R. Barnett and Robert Howren Barnett; letters and memoirs of his father's ministry; copies of talks on the history of conference churches; local church histories; and records of the building committee at First MECS Key West.

Bishop Frederick Deland Leete (1866-1950) was admitted on trial in the Northern New York Conference Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888. Elected to the episcopacy in 1912, he presided over several sessions of the St. Johns River Conference and the Florida Conference Methodist Episcopal Church between 1913 and 1920.
