Understanding Calendar Item Numbers

The Committee recommends concurrence by substitution as amended as follows:

Amend Paragraph 1507 as follows:

¶ 1507. Organization.--1. The membership of this board shall be sixty-four (64) persons constituted in accordance with ¶805.3a of the General Provisions. and with the addition of these Central Conference members: Six persons and one alternate for each who may attend if the elected member cannot attend. In the election of the delegates by the Commission on Central Conference Affairs, two shall be clergy, two laymen, and two laywomen. This provision shall take effect immediately after the conclusion of General Conference. If a vacancy occurs in the board, it shall be filled in accordance with ¶ 812.

The membership shall be constituted as follows:

a. Jurisdictional members--Clergy, laywomen and laymen shall be elected to the board by the jurisdictional conference upon nomination from the annual conference in accordance with ¶805.3b, based on the following formula: North Central - 8, Northeastern - 8, South Central - 10, Southeastern - 13 and Western - 3.

b. Supplemental members--One member from North Shaba Annual Conference and one member from South Shaba Annual Conference shall be elected as supplemental members according to the provisions of ¶805.2c.

c. Central Conference members--Four (4) Central Conference members shall be elected to the board on nomination by the Council of Bishops, according to the provisions in ¶ 805.3c.

d. Episcopal members--Six (6) episcopal members, shall be named by the Council of Bishops, including at least one (1) from the Central Conferences (see ¶ 810.10).

e. One member elected by Iglesia Metodista Autónoma Afiliada de Puerto Rico.

f. Additional members--(1) United Methodist--Additional members are nominated by a committee composed of three persons from each jurisdiction (one clergy, one laywomen and one layman) elected by the jurisdictional conference. They shall elect up to nine (9) additional members to assure inclusivity and expertise. (2) It is recommended that the board elect at least one of the additional members without vote from among the other churches of the Consultation on Church Union.

g. If a vacancy occurs in the board, it shall be filled in accordance with ¶ 812.
