Biographical Note

Lola Edith Lowther was a social service/missionary worker with the Young Men's Christian Association in France during 1919 and 1920. She attended Syracuse University as a fine arts student from 1900-1901 and 1902-1905, but did not graduate. At Syracuse, Lowther was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Prior to going to France she received some work training at Barnard College.

Lowther arrived in France in 1919 and was stationed in the villages surrounding Chateau Thierry and later Vaux. Her work had some connection to the Methodist Church, but there was not a proselytizing mission to it. She also received some financial support from her friends in the Syracuse area.
