Abstract: Albert Sanford Hunt (1827-1898), Methodist Episcopal Church minister, spent many years of his life serving in a pastoral capacity in the city of Brooklyn. This collection contains both journals of his everyday experiences and correspondences between himself and his fellow associates.

Biographical Note

Albert Sanford Hunt (1827-1898), Methodist Episcopal Church minister, spent many years of his life serving in a pastoral capacity in the city of Brooklyn. He was born in Amenia, Dutchess County, New York, July 3, 1827. He graduated with the honor of valedictorian from Wesleyan University in 1851. He served at Wesleyan University as both a tutor and an adjunct Professor of Moral Science until he resigned in 1855. After spending a short time as a probationer in the New York Conference in 1859, Hunt began to serve in the New York East Conference in the capacity of pastor in various churches in the city of Brooklyn until 1878, when he was elected Corresponding Secretary of the American Bible Society. He died September 11, 1898.


Scope Note

This collection contains items related to the life of Albert Sanford Hunt. Part of this collection involves Albert Hunt�s journals which are dated 1848-1850, 1850-1852, 1855-1866, and 1866-1892. These journals contain information about his daily experiences and religious reflections. Other records include correspondence between Hunt and his fellow associates. The bulk of this material includes requests for his presence in another congregation in the capacity of a guest preacher, cordial gratitude for a sermon that he gave at another congregation, and both request and apologies concerning the possibility of having a meeting with Hunt.
