Biographical Note

Samuel Romilly Hall (1812 - 1876), a British Methodist preacher, was born in Bristol, England. A memorial for Hall in the Wesleyan Methodist Church Conference Minutes for 1876 records "Having given himself to the Methodist ministry, he studied the records of its rise and progress." Hall was an author whose lectures reflected his interest in a defense of John Wesley and modern Methodism as well as a lecture on the subject of John Wesley's use of the Press. Hall was widely known for his friendship and generosity among his peers. In 1868 he was elected the President of the Methodist Conference. His last Circuit was Penzance. In the last four years of his ministry he was stricken by paralysis which limited his work.
