Scope Note

The main attraction of this small collection is Hess’ combination diary and notebook whose entries span from 1912 to 1916. Her life and ministry in China are well documented during this period. Besides diary entries, the researcher will find lessons, short biographical vignettes of native Chinese Christians and a small bibliography. Stories of healing and conversion can be found in loose handwritten or typed sheets of paper. There are clippings about Hess' 100th birthday and how to study the Bible. The June 22, 1901 Christian and Missionary Alliance magazine is dedicated to the Siege of Peking.
